About This Spot

Stepping into Anh Mâp Restaurant is like slipping through a hidden passage into a quiet corner of Ho Chi Minh City’s vibrant heart. Nestled down an intricate network of side streets off bustling Phạm Ngũ Lão, this unassuming spot offers a moment of calm and familiarity that often escapes the city's livelier corners. The pace here slows as you settle in—landing in a place that feels less like a commercial eatery and more like a warm invitation into someone’s cherished kitchen.

The atmosphere carries the gentle hum of genuine hospitality, shaped by the elderly couple who lovingly prepare and serve each dish with a quiet pride. It’s a distinctly local rhythm: unhurried, heartfelt, and refreshingly unpretentious. You might notice the subtle familiarity of a neighborhood gathering spot—where regulars and newcomers alike share smiles, stories, and nods of acknowledgement, creating an ambiance that mingles comfort with discovery.

The food mirrors this sentiment, embracing the soul of Vietnamese home cooking rather than spectacle. Plates arrive with a simplicity that belies the care behind each bite, flavors that invite you to linger, savoring both the familiar and the little surprises found between the layers—whether in a fresh spring roll or a bowl of fragrant fried rice. Here, the experience is as much about connecting with those quiet moments around the table as it is about the tastes that travel from kitchen to plate.

Anh Mâp is a place where the humbleness of a family kitchen meets the spirit of local streetside dining. It’s the kind of place that asks you to slow down and soak in the small, human moments—where the energy isn’t flashy, but richly alive in its authenticity.

I just love local places like this one. You need to pass a labyrinth of side streets but it's an adventure worth taking. Food is prepared by a local elderly couple, the guy speaks English, prices are very low and food tastes great. For all on the picture I paid 65k VND, including beer of course.

This is my absolute favourite place to eat near Bui Vien / District 1. So authentic, some of the most lovely owners. Such amazing value. I never buy food in Bui Vien - go into the lanes, be adventurous- best thing I did in Vietnam. This is where the life energy of the area is.

Absolutely delicious lunch here at Anh Mâp Restaurant! I had the Egg & Pork Fried Rice, Bún Thịt Nướng and the Pork Spring Rolls. All three items were freshly made and tasted fantastic. I love how this restaurant is such a hole-in-the-wall, it has such a local charm and ambiance to it. I can't wait to return here again!

Delicious dish and welcoming staff. Very local atmosphere, feels like visiting grandma’s house. Prices are good too.

It's a great place because it's cheap and the food is delicious. That's why local children often come here. You'll see arrogant white people pretending to be regulars loitering around here, mistaking it for a bar. Do not smoke near children eating. Just because locals do it often doesn't mean it's okay. I think it's a basic courtesy that tourists should naturally observe.

Anh Mâp Restaurant is a straightforward local spot with budget-friendly Vietnamese food. Nothing extraordinary, but everything is decent: portions are filling, flavors are honest, and service is quick. A good choice when you want something simple, tasty, and cheap.

Great little mom and pop restaurant serving home made food, nothing fancy. The prices are cheap and the portion sizes are good. My fried beef with macaroni was super tasty and the spring rolls well cooked. These both and a soda, 90k. Highly recommend.
